I decided to migrate from my elf hosted Nextcloud server to Proton, since the latter now has pretty much everything I need from cloud services. I'm making this page to keep track of my progress while also sharing it with the internet so that it might help someone else one day. For context. my OS is Linux (Ubuntu).
Proton Drive
29/1/2026
- There is currently no Linux app for Proton Drive, however there is a solution with rclone.
- S3Drive builds on the rclone solution, and since I couldn't set up rclone I tried using it instead.
- I installed the AppImage since the .deb file was outdated.
- I'm able to access files through the app, but not to sync them. If you click on the burger icon on the top left, you can set up a "copy" system, but not sync (this requires the ultimate version). I did this, now S3Drive crashes on startup. The problem seems to be Proton docs, which are not a standard format and just break everything.
TL;DR - there is no real drive solution for now. Which is really fucking annoying.
